Thurmaston Bus was an independent operator who operated a mixture of commercial and tendered bus services in Leicester.[1] On Wednesday 10 August 2011 Thurmaston Bus went into administration.[2] Services were withdrawn on Friday 28 October, Coachmaster took over the operation of services 36, 52 and 70 on Monday 31 October 2011, Centrebus also took over the operation of service 302.

History

The company was formed in 2000 as Powell & Watson and in 2003 they changed their name to Thurmaston Bus. The company did some private hire work under a sunsidiary known as Coachmaster when the bus operation went into administration, they took over some of the commercial services.

In August 2009 Centrebus purchased a 20% share of Thurmaston bus and Mark Mahony (of Centrebus) joined the company during a restructure becoming a joint director. During 2010 all operations moved to a new depot in Thurmaston.

The company stated a tough economic climate and a number of external factors as issues during the winding up of the Thurmaston Bus business.

Depot

The depot and offices were based at Pinfold Road, Thurmaston, just north of Leicester. Coachmaster still use the depot.

Fleet

Thurmaston Bus had around 20 buses for their bus operations. They were in the process of replacing their low floor buses due to problems with their supplier.[3]

Services

City Centre

Thurmaston Bus operated services that commenced from either Haymarket Bus Station, Charles Street, Haymarket/Belgrave Gate or Humberstone Gate.

Network

Services were operated to Eyres Monsell, Hamilton, Gateway College, Highfields, Braunstone, Leicester General Hospital, Evington, Leicester Royal Infirmary, Northfields, Thurmaston and Rushey Mead.
